Prescriptions for Obesity

Recently there was an announcement that the NHS is prescribing 1 million prescriptions per year for obesity pills.

Should the taxpayers money be going on these prescriptions for the obese? Or should the obese be taught how to eat more healthily and to change their lifestyle to incorporate more exercise? This topic certainly raises a few eyebrows especially when we know how much money is spent on these ’special pills’.

Are the prescriptions given out as a quick fix for the overweight population or do they actually help the individual? The weight may come off, but does it stay off and for how long?

Of course there are extra special circumstances where some individuals have to have these tablets, but is there anyway we can cut down on giving the prescriptions out by giving individuals exercise routines rather than sitting down in front of the telly and just popping their ‘diet pill’?

Let us have your thoughts. Do you agree with these prescriptions being handed out? or do you think our money should be spent on better things?
