Thousands of people in the UK are already feeling the pinch due most of the major companies increasing their utility bills. More and more people are living off credit cards in order to buy their basic provisions even though they are working full time.

Clothes here in the UK can now be bought for only a few pounds if you look around – however, someone, somewhere will be paid pittance for making them and no doubt will be working in terrible conditions.

Is this gas increase just the start or are more companies now going to follow suit and increase their bills even more just to see how much money they can actually make?

In the UK fuel prices have reached an all time high. Commuters are feeling the pinch now if they drive to work. Fuel prices have a knock on effect, for example food deliveries will be more expensive, therefore the price of basic provisions like bread and milk are again rising in price. Household bills, electric and gas are predicted to go up 40%. It seems that it’s a constant battle at the moment for the general public to keep their heads above water. More and more people are losing their homes as they can no longer afford to run them.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when people were snatching at the lettuces as if there was no tomorrow, but I can guarantee that half of those people have just gone along with the mad rush for them and will now leaving them to rot in their fridge as they probably thought it’s a nice sunny day and I shall start my diet today.

Aid agencies are appealing for help and say the need is “immediate and vast”.

While there have been questions over whether the Burmese government will give the agencies the access they need, most say they have partners on the ground and they are confident aid will get through.

We waste an incredible 6.7 million tonnes of food every year.

But the government’s Waste and Resources Action Programme says almost two-thirds of the food thrown away could have been eaten if we managed our lives better.

Only 19 per cent of our rubbish is made up of unavoidable waste such as vegetable peelings, meat carcasses and teabags.

The rest comes from leftovers we scrape off our plates after meals, and shockingly, completely untouched products that have been allowed to go off. Nearly one million tonnes of food is thrown away whole or unopened – almost half of all bags of salad bought ends up in the bin.

And the single food item wasted most is potato, followed by bread, apples, meat and fish.
