Curb appeal is that elusive notion of desperately wanting to see the inside of someone’s home, not because you’re nosy (well, maybe a little!), but because the outside of their home just looks incredible. Curb appeal is all about making a great first impression, and if you’re selling your home, it is arguably one of the most significant parts of your home to ensure prospective buyers come seeking your home. Here are 5 ways to add curb appeal to your home in a quick and inexpensive way:
1. The Front Door
One of the first things your prospective home buyers will notice is the front door. If the paint is cracking or rubbing off, or the hardware is rusting, this will immediately produce negative connotations. Give your front door a fresh lick of paint, and even consider changing the colour scheme. Keep the theme neutral and harmonious, and ensure that the paint colour is in keeping with the overall tone of your home’s exterior. Replace any rusty or worn door fixtures, and add a post box to the side of the door for added value
2. The Garden
Ensure your front garden is neat and looks well cared for. Trim any overgrown bushes or shrubbery, uproot the weeds and plant some potted flowers. If the lawn is looking a bit unkempt, mow it every couple of weeks to freshen up the exterior of your home. Hide away any garden or conservatory furniture that looks out of place, and keep them in your garage or its rightly place.
3. The Windows
Windows are another key area of the outdoor space of your home. A quick touch of paint to the frames of your windows (if they’re made of wood) will brighten them up in an instant, and of course wash your windows thoroughly with a mixture of water and detergent, and a chamois or rug. This extra bit of effort will make a huge impact on the aesthetics of your home from an outsider’s perspective.
4. The Driveway
If your home has a driveway or path leading up to the door, why not add some planter beds to either side? This will restore colour to the exterior of your home. Also, try power washing the driveway if it’s looking a little off-colour or dirty. This will instantly brighten up the look of your home.
5. The Little Details
Little things like your guttering and fascia boards can be spruced up in an instant. Hose your guttering down and clean any other surfaces you have on show outside to instantly brighten and freshen the exterior. Also, a great tip is to make everything symmetrical – for example, if you have flowers or decorative lanterns on either side of your front door, ensure they are symmetrical on either side for instant aesthetic appeal. Keep colours, patterns and all the little details co-ordinated for a boost of curb appeal that will guarantee ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from passers by!
